(1790-1867), writer, born in Connecticut, was a counting-room clerk from 1811 to 1849. In partnership with J.R. Drake he published the "Croakers" in 1819. He wrote "Twilight," "Fanny," "Marco Bozzaris" and "Young America." He was a fluent writer with a brilliant and polished style.
