A British poet; born in 1696; died in Nag's Head Court, in 1737. "The Spleen", most noted of his poems for originality and wit, was published (1737) after his death, by his friend Richard Glover. It is one of the best of its class, and was a favorite with Gray. The familiar quotation "Fling but a stone, the giant dies", is from this poem.

- An inorganic water-soluble platinum complex. After undergoing hydrolysis, it reacts DNA produce both intra interstrand crosslinks. These crosslinks appear to impair replication and transcription of DNA. The cytotoxicity cisplatin correlates with cellular arrest in G2 phase cell cycle.
