[Latin] A genus of leguminous plants. A. praecatorius, Indian (or wild) licorice, indigenous to India and naturalized in all tropical countries furnishes a medicinal root (Abri radix) and seeds (Abri semen). The latter called jequirity, contain a mixture of poisonous proteids (Abrin). An infusion of jequirity is applied to the eyes to cure old pannus by setting up a violent conjunctivitis (jequirity ophthalmia).
