In the Shahnamah of Firdusi, a tyrant who has serpents growing from his shoulders, and who is slain by Feridun. The name is a contraction from the Zend Azi-dahaka, the biting snake, representing the Vedic Ahi (See Vritra) and Dahak, the biter [Gr.].
