An English story-teller and miscellaneous writer; born at Chateau St.-Leonard in Normandy. She is author of several works on the history of art and of culture, among them "Studies of the 18th Century in Italy" (1880); "Belcaro: Essays on Sundry Aesthetical Questions" (1881); "Euphorion: Studies of the Antique and the Mediaeval in the Renaissance" (2 vols. 2d ed. 1885); "Renaissance Francies and Studies" (1895). Among her stories are: "Ottilie" (1883); "Miss Brown" (1884); "Limbo, Essays" (1897).
