(1727-1819), was a Connecticut delegate to the Stamp-Act Congress in 1765. He was London agent of the colony from 1766 to 1771. He was Judge of the Connecticut Supreme Court from 1772 to 1774, served in the Continental Congress from 1784 to 1787, and aided in drafting the Constitution. He was a U. S. Senator from 1789 to 1791, then president of Columbia College till 1800.
