Same etymology. A surgical operation, which consists in making an opening either into the trachea. (Tracheot'omy:) into the larynx, (Laryngot'omy:) or into both, ( Trachea-laryngot'omy,) to extract foreign bodies or to permit the passage of air to the lungs. These different parts are divided transversely or vertically, according to circumstances.
