Ac"ida, Aco'res, are liquid, solid, or gaseous bodies, possessed of a sour, more or less caustic taste, and the principal character of which is the capability of saturating, wholly or in part, the alkaline properties of bases. Acids, in general, are refrigerant and antiseptic. Their particular uses are pointed out under the individual articles.
