An American journalist and politician; born at Cairo, N. Y., Nov. 15, 1797; died in New York city, Nov. 22, 1882. He founded the Agriculturist at Norwich, N. Y.; the Evening Journal, Albany, N. Y. (1830); and edited the Commercial Advertiser, New York city (1867-68). His books are: "Letters from Europe and the West Indies" (1866); and an autobiography, edited by his daughter, and published in 1882. He wrote "Reminiscences" for the Atlantic Monthly.
