A Flemish poet; born in St. Amand-on-Scheldt, Jan. 18, 1835. He has long been an educator of eminence, and issued his first verse collection, "Ghazels and Makames" (Arabian terms for stanzas and songs) in 1866, under the pseudonym of "Jan Fergunt"; his subsequent volumes, on Camoens and other important subjects, fully sustaining his reputation. Died 1902.
