Each of the papillae of the kidney, according to Ferrein, consists of, at least, 700 subordinate cones or pyramids. To these last the names 'pyramids of Ferrein,' Pyramides renales Ferreini, Fasciculi pyramidales, Fasciculi corticales, Lobuli renum, have been given.
