A German scholar and historian; born in Hildesheim, about 1741; died in Hamburg, June 30, 1817. He was for many years professor of history and Greek at Hamburg. His chief work is a "Geography and History of North America" (5 vols., 1793-99), for which he received a vote of thanks from Congress.

- An inorganic water-soluble platinum complex. After undergoing hydrolysis, it reacts DNA produce both intra interstrand crosslinks. These crosslinks appear to impair replication and transcription of DNA. The cytotoxicity cisplatin correlates with cellular arrest in G2 phase cell cycle.
